Historic Programmes & People
World Youth Congresses
There were six of them and they were life-changing events for the thousands of young people who took part in them. Check out each of them, through videos created about them, and the outcome documents that the young delegates delivered
Books
Having empowered young people to create different versions of the musical play, it was a natural transition to empower them to create books on complex global issues. Some of them were almost more successful than the musicals and, though books do not command the same attention that they did in the past, all the Peace Child books are a remarkable testament to the skills, talent and creativity of young people.
Youth Employment
‘Getting a Job!’ – became a major focus of Peace Child in the last 15 years, working with the UN to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 8 to “achieve full employment for all young women and men by 2030.” An impossible task – but one that young people would be wise to do a whole lot more to help themselves achieve
Working with the UN
Peace Child started working with the UN straight after its first performance. We won a UN Peace Messenger award in 1986, and achieved Consultative Status with UN ECOSOC in 1997. Before that, the UN had funded two of our most successful books: Rescue Mission : Planet Earth – a Children’s Edition of Agenda 21, and A World in Our Hands – a Children’s History of the Past, Present and Future of the United Nations – prepared for the UN’s 50th Anniversary. We also did an online Conference for the UN’s 75th Anniversary in 2020.
Meet some Peace Child Alumni
Peace Child is all about empowering young people – so let’s meet some of the young people we empowered over the years. For each, we show where they were when they had their Peace Child experience, and where they are now.
