OUR FINEST HOUR
1984 to 1986
There are many moments in the extraordinary history of
Peace Child that could lay claim to being ‘Our Finest Hour’: the series
of miracles that brought about the first performance in the Royal Albert Hall
was one; the serendipities that enabled the US Premiere at the Kennedy
Centre was another. The extraordinary concatenation of events that led to Rescue Mission : Planet Earth being translated into 23 languages, selling over half a million copies
and appearing briefly on the New York Times best-seller list was a third. But
for those of us who have watched the fortunes of Peace Child ebb and flow over
the last 44 years, the US-Soviet Tour of 1986 – and the events that led up to
it – are unquestionably Peace Child’s Finest Hour. Hopefully – future leaders
of Peace Child International will deliver more impactive – and lasting – Finest
Hours - perhaps when we pull off that P5 Capital Tour telling a plausible story
of how today’s young people reinvent the United Nations so that it saves the
human family from tyranny, war and the worst effects of climate change and
destruction of our Biosphere!
