Annette Graham
I have been working with holistic therapies since 2006. I originally got into an ‘alternative’ way of healing when I found myself in the middle of divorcing my husband and becoming a single mother to two little girls. Coupled with bringing traumatic childhood issues into my adulthood, I became so overwhelmed by day to day living. I went to the doctors who immediately wanted to put me on anti-depressants. For me, I knew I wanted to not blanket what I was feeling but find a different way. This does not by any means mean I belittle the use of anti-depressants and the need for people to have them, it was just, something else was calling me. I stumbled upon an article about reiki, this form of healing just resonated with me, and at the same time a friend had just had another friend recently learn it, so I booked an appointment.
Throughout the session I felt relaxed, I did at the time expect miracles, I wanted that one session to fix me, and I skipped along my merry way after. It didn’t happen like that, but it did change my direction in life and, give me a sense of peace and understanding. I knew I had to learn more, so I booked a course of learning reiki at level one, this in turn gave me more tools with which to deal with day to day living. I went on to learn level two and reiki master/ teacher level. I didn’t start living this spiritual life where nothing went wrong, it did!! I went on to still choose toxic relationships and situations and find myself in debt. By that time I hadn’t learnt to listen to my thoughts and what I was constantly telling myself. The reiki though stayed with me and was the support I needed. I went on to train in the anatomy of the body, massage, reflexology, acupressure, reiki drum shamanic healing, crystal healing, nutrition, karuna reiki, amongst other things.
I started Harmony and Balance in 2009, but not with the confidence and experience I have now, it has grown as I have. I wanted to pass on a different way of being to as many people as I can. I work physically if needed just for deep relaxation with a massage or energetically, looking at you as a whole. Everyone’s needs are individual, everyone’s journey is unique, with this in mind I listen to what you need intuitively and do all that I can to guide you to a happier way of being. I don’t poop rainbows daily and ride a unicorn whilst patronising how you should be living, but I do know there is no such thing as a bad situation, you are simply being redirected to a better way of living. That we have all the tools we need within us if we are willing to listen, that we have power over our thoughts and once we realise that it opens up a whole new way of being, that this life isn’t meant to be a struggle. Things happen, we can’t control that, but we can control how we react, and when our body breaks down physically, it’s trying to tell us something. Two years ago, mine did, big time, I was juggling 4 jobs forgetting all I had learnt and not trusting in myself, it made me re-evaluate, regroup and take a different direction, my body started to heal again. I feel so passionate about passing all I have learnt to those I meet; to give them the tools to get the most out of life, life is for living.
“The breath knows how to go deeper than the mind” - Wim Hoff
My work is calm, unhurried and led by what feels right for you on the day. Before any hands-on work begins, there is time to talk through what has brought you, what you are hoping for and any questions or concerns you may have.
I work in a person-centred way, which means you are always in choice: you can say yes, no or "not today" at any point. Pressure, techniques and pace are adjusted in response to your feedback, and you are encouraged to listen to your body and honour its signals.
Safety, consent and confidentiality are at the heart of every session. Boundaries are clear, and touch is always respectful, trauma-aware and within what you have agreed together. You do not need to have the right words, a clear story or a particular goal – simply arriving as you are is enough.
Underpinning all of this is a belief that each person has their own inner wisdom and capacity to heal and restore balance. My role is to hold a supportive, grounded space in which your system can gently move towards more ease, integration and wholeness.
